Operation Sundevil by TheStarflower
The lyrics are read by Starflower, but were written by Mentor ( Loyd Blankenship ), a member of LoD in the 80's who published it after his arrest in Phrack magazine ( http://www.phrack.org/issues.html?iss... ) and was mistakenly credited as being from 2600 mag in the movie "Hackers". I've used a little bit of artistic license in interpreting the grammar, and a little bit of "remixing" at the end. It is otherwise unmolested. Ultra leet props given if you know what the number at the end of the track means.
Released by: Splendid Imaginings A note from Starflower: This track has deep personal for meaning me. I was deeply involved in the H/P/A/B scene in the 90's, got in some pretty serious trouble at a couple of points, sysop'd several BBSes, dumpster dove, and all that, and it was my experience "forging machines to build your dreams" that gave me the necessary mental outlook to survive in this world without compromising my ideals. Exchanging 'philes' on boards and IRC and telnetting through r00t'd VAX VMS & *nix systems to try out the knowledge, soldering things into new things and generally being on top of the technology of the day when the vast majority was utterly ignorant of it was enlightening. My experience with this looseknit but tightly wound disenfranchised group of real geniuses (of which I do not really claim to belong) was a guidepost and forever altered how I viewed authority and political/legal issues. The revelation that the people "in charge" were corrupt and evil liberated me to think for myself. I already was, of course, but realizing that I wasn't just a "bad kid" liberated me in ways I can't describe. To realize that "there are others." Like most of those "others" who existed in that amazing cross-section of time and metaphysical space, "Mentor's Last Words" was MY manifesto. It embodied my rage at being margainalized for my intelligence and criminalized for THEIR fear of the unknown, while truly horrific acts by those same "people" went unpunished. These words are still relevant today -- now, more than ever. Now more than ever we need to rise up against the bonds they have placed on us. It has never been more vital, in the history of the human race, that individuals use their logic and their reason and refuse to allow their leaders to lead them down the path of self destruction. Now more than ever we must question their "truths" and declare "bullshit!" when we are presented with it, and it is because we are closer now than ever before to the Orwellian police state of perpetual war and thought control that we must refuse to obey, conform, and consume. United, the ants WILL conqueor the elephant. Also, I'd like to say too that today, more now than ever before, the vast majority of people who claim to be hackers couldn't HACK their way out of a wet paper bag. They are what we would call script kiddies, exploit scanners. If you can just load a program and have it autohack for you, you are not 31337, that is lame. This video is dedicated to my brothers and sisters who have grown up and moved on from our.. shady .. pasts, but have held on to our ideals and continue to fight those motherfuckers that are screwing up everything. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Knowledge is power. (Hack the planet!!@! lol) |
