Being the perpetual broke-ass, I was never able to buy my mother a nice gift for the hallmark holiday. So, I wrote her a song. This was some ten years ago now, but I still rather like it.
Lyrics:
I'd like to raise a toast to my mom,
Her beautiful self is where I'm from.
And though she'll often complain of being tired,
It's her strength I admire.
She taught me the things I need
In this world to compete amongst all the other "everybodies"
And was waiting with open arms
Every time things went wrong as my life moved along.
I wonder as I'm looking back,
How she didn't go insane?
I was such a little pain in the ass..
.. but now I'm a grown man,
And the nature of her nurture is reflected in who I am.
So please don't fret for me --
-- I was raised so well by my mommy....
